Ocean Breeze Farm, at the corner of Noyes Neck Road and Shore Road, is a 65 acre family owned working farm.  In 1997, the Weekapaug Foundation for Conservation worked jointly with The Nature Conservancy and the Rhode Island Agricultural Land Preservation Commission on obtaining the development rights to the farm.  The Nature Conservancy determined that under zoning codes at that time, the property could have been used to build 36 additional single-family house lots.  The present owner’s father purchased most of the land just before the 1938 hurricane, but the remaining parcel was purchased in 1981.  This property is a gem of open space in Westerly, with cattle seen grazing each summer day.   The farm also raises chickens for farm fresh eggs and grows crops of hay and corn.  The rights protect the farm from future non-farming development, even if farm and property are sold.
