Noyes Neck Trail
The WFC opened a pedestrian trail through the forest from Noyes Neck Road to the Community Garden, allowing pedestrians to walk inside the stone walls and off a busy Noyes Neck Road. WFC plans to continue to create a trail network at Noyes Neck farm for the community to enjoy.
Opening the Trail
In 2021, the WFC applied for and received a grant from The National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) the State of RI to improve forestry practices at Noyes Neck Forest. The grant required that a working trail be cut through the forest to provide better air circulation, more sunlight and improve access for the removal of dead trees and invasive species. With these State funds and money contributed from WFC, a pedestrian trail was cut through the forest from Noyes Neck Road to the Community Garden. Trees and other debris were removed from the forest, tree branches were piled to create animal snags (habitat) for wildlife, and branches chipped to create a walking path. Bird houses were also added on the property to attract more birds.
WFC has continued these efforts expanding the path through the Nushka Preserve and allowing pedestrians to walk inside the stone walls and off a busy Noyes Neck Road. Walkers can now continue their walk along the stone wall or on the path around the farm field: Farm Trail. One can also choose the path through Nushka Preserve. Trees have been marked to delineate the trail: Forest Trail. Signs have been posted to mark the Farm and Forest Trails.
