The Weekapaug Golf Club
The Foundation holds a conservation easement on the 60-acre Weekapaug Golf Course and two abutting parcels of land, the Meikle parcel and the Rachlin parcel.
The golf course is ranked the 28th best 9-hole courses in the world by Golf Magazine and is part of the Rhode Island Golf Course Green Certification Program, which reflects the club’s strong commitment to stewardship of its waterfront property.
The course was designed by Phil Wogan and opened in 1967. As described on the club’s website, the course is “a links-style design with Scottish-style bunkers, undulating greens that blend in with the land, holes framed by native fescue, and natural landward and seaward winds.”
The clubhouse and course enjoy beautiful views of Winnapaug Pond. The course is home to seasonal Purple Martins and the Golf Course Superintendent of 18 years, Don Urso, is a proud member of the Purple Martin Conservation Association.
The foundation acquired the development rights in 1997.
